Temporality: A Journey Through Erosion and Plant Life
Partner: Jesus Tomas Rios
Serving as a visitor center for the Binational Park in Nuevo Laredo, MX and Laredo, TX, this project aims to be a place for the local Nuevo Laredo community to learn and express themselves within the nature they may not realize they preserved in their off-hands approach in dealing with the border.
With the help of satellite imagery and topographical maps, since 1995, the water and vegetation levels near the site a have fluctuated in response to changes in human intervention from the American side and climatic patterns. As a result of this, the effects of the water erosion provided by the Rio Grande is apparent, given by a channel of the river running dry nearby the site. Unlike their American counterparts across the river, Nuevo Laredo has left the riparian vegetation to grow over time. This allows for the goal of the site to proliferate: to appreciate how nature responds through time in erosion and flora growth.
