Social Suture

Taking place in Maré, a favela of Rio de Janeiro, this project focused on providing innovative solutions for sustainable urbanization. The goal was to increase the quality of the built environment and the overall quality of life for its inhabitants. By using new approaches in urban and social integration, the favela of Maré found a renewed vitality and benefited from the nature of its surroundings.

To fully understand the site, I was tasked to create murals that accurately depict the favela culture. Alongside this, I developed in-depth maps and diagrams to demonstrate the usage of the area and methods of providing the equipment needed to effectively urbanize. Once this was complete, I proposed a vendor hub and a community children’s park to benefit the people of Maré.
